The Wine Advocate, 94p
The old Las Firmas has been renamed to adjust to the new appellation rules since it’s a village red, and it is now the 2019 Valtuille Vino de Villa. Here he looks for vineyards with sandy soils that tend to produce finer and more elegant wines (Villegas mostly). This is terribly expressive and perfumed, and the nose reminds me of some wines from Terroir al Limit, a little Garnacha-like but fine and fresh. It has a moderate 13% alcohol and less weight than the Castro Ventosa wines that he makes at the family winery. It fermented with some 40% full clusters, had a 35- to 40-day maceration and matured in well-seasoned, neutral 500-liter oak barrels for one year. 3,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2020.
