November with 88° Oechsle, the 2021 Erdener Herzlei Riesling Spätlese Alte Reben (Gold Capsule) offers a clear and precise, coolish and stony as well as herbal bouquet of broken stones and clear, bright fruit and lemon aromas. Lush and intense on the fleshy yet also piquant and stimulating palate, this is a gorgeously juicy, round and stimulating Spätlese with sharp and piquant yet not aggressive acidity that creates a finish like a laser beam. This is Riesling for freaks and fans of the old times when Spätelse Rieslings were still sharp and precise and much more digestible than sweet. The acidity is pronounced, but compared to the Spätlese from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, it’s almost mild with its nine grams per liter. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
